Summary

He Ara Tika is a Maori Mentoring initiative that is focused on building the self-esteen and cultural identity of Maori secondary school students. It is a community based initiative that aims to encourage Rangatahi Maori participation, retention and success in secondary school as well as developing further educaitonal and career pathways.

1-2 hours fortnightly. Onsite at registered secondary schools and at community locaitons that meet mee tthe facilitation needs, cultural and safety requirements of the He Ara Tika initiative.

Mentor Target Criteria Mentors must go through a vetting, screening and applicaiton process. Be committed to working with rangitahi maori voluntarily for at least 12 months. Mentors must also successfully complete the UNITEC short course in He Ara Tika Maori Mentoring (Level 4 - 10 credits)
Measurement and Evaluation - how is this done A fully supervised 6-week Mentoring Internship as a part of the UNITEC short course followed by monthly supervision and reporting.
Involvement Opportunities

Individual and whanau referrals for Students to participate in the initiative. Individual and busness referrals for prospective Mentors. Community support for mentoring event, resources and guest facilitation eg: volunteers, sponsorship, venues and guest workshops.
