The two areas of Youth Mentoring Training that will be available are:

MENTOR TRAINING - where attendees can achieve the Foundation Certificate in Youth Mentoring in New Zealand.

PROGRAMME TRAINING - where attendees can acheive the Certificate in Effective Youth Mentoring Programme Development & Delivery in New Zealand.

Mentor Training

This training will explore four modules covering Communicating effectively with your mentee, Risk & behaviour management, Personal development and Exploring identity & culture. These modules include an overview of the youth mentoring sector and participants can attend either of these modules, or they can choose to attend all four. Those that attend all four modules will receive the Foundation Certificate in Youth Mentoring in New Zealand. This training will be offered in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch - 4pm - 8pm. Investment for each module is $80.00 + GST.

Communicating effectively - during this session we will look at the importance of the feedback loop in effective communication and we will also introduce you to the valuable skills of reflective listening. We will interpret some of the underlying messages in non-verbal communication, and will finish up by exploring the digital era that we live in and the priority an adolescent places on text messaging, Facebook and the internet.

Behaviour & Risk Management - we will look at methods for dealing with inappropriate behaviour, negative and positive reinforcement, the importance of being prepared, exploring coping strategies, planning for the unexpected, and how to facilitate change. We will also look at how to manage risk for both the young person and also in your role as a Mentor. Understanding what you are committing to, when you might need to break confidentiality with your mentee in order to protect them, what legal obligations you have, plus setting and maintaining boundaries

Personal Development - join us as we explore interlocking aspects of personal development for young people, from the development of an adolescent's brain, to determining the difference between sympathy and empathy. We'll work through various processes to assist you in supporting mentees to set realistic and achievable goals, manage their time more effectively, and stay solutions-focused during their decision-making process. A focus of this session is an in-depth look at developing resiliency in young people, exploring self efficacy and building confidence in their abilities.

Exploring Identity and Culture - As life unfolds, we grow to understand who we really are, where we came from and how we fit into this world. Join us for this session, to explore how environments, diversity, gender and culture can contribute to this journey for a young person as they move towards identity achievement. We also look at the importance of values in a young person's development.

Programme Training

This three day workshop will explore various modules covering best practice in the development and delivery of a youth mentoring programme in New Zealand.

These include: Mentor Recruitment, Mentor Screening, Making and supporting the match, Forming and maintaining relationships, Managing programme risk, evaluating and measuring outcomes, Fundraising and Sponsorship and Sustainable business practice.  At the completion of the three-day workshop, attendees will achieve the Certificate in Effective Youth Mentoring Programme Development and Delivery in New Zealand. This training will be offered in Auckland only - 9.30am - 4.30pm over three days. Investment for three-day workshop is $650.00 + GST.
