Mentoring Providers
First Foundation
First Foundation is an educational trust that helps talented, financially disadvantaged young New Zealanders access tertiary education. It partners with businesses to provide scholarships and supports students by preparing them to achieve their goals.
Each recipient of a First Foundation scholarship receives:
An annual grant towards their tertiary fees
Paid work experience with the Scholarship Partner sponsoring them (from which students are required to contribute towards their own tertiary fees)
A personal mentor to advise and guide them

Overview
Our four-year programme helps these talented New Zealanders navigate from school, through higher education and into a meaningful career. Each student is sponsored by an organisation, matched with a mentor, and gains the opportunity for work experience.
The First Foundation Mentor is a critical pillar in the Scholarship programme. Their role is to walk alongside their Scholar and to be a guide, coach, advisor, sounding board, friend, role model, and listener to help them achieve their goals over the life of the Scholarship.

About the mentoring
This is a one-on-one mentoring programme and the expectation is that the mentoring relationship will last the period of the programme and beyond. Mentors meet with the young person face-to-face monthly, with weekly contact.
