Pillar Ka Po Whakahou
We believe every child in Aotearoa deserves to stride into the future with confidence, no matter their circumstances. Pillars Ka Pou Whakahou is a charity that supports tamariki with a parent in prison to create positive futures for themselves. Our mentors not only change children's lives, but they also change their own for the better. They act as an Aunty, Uncle, big brother, or big sister figure who are the joke tellers, adventurers, and trusted supporters that tamariki have been missing.

Overview
Once a whānau has received social work support and have achieved some of their goals, our Mentoring Coordinators match tamariki with an askable, trusted adult from our community of volunteers. These volunteers are trained and supported to provide the children with new experiences and opportunities.

About the mentoring
The age range we mentor is 5 to 17 years old. The mentoring approach is one-to-one, and the expectation is that the mentoring relationship will last 1 year to 2 years. Mentors meet with the young person fortnightly.
