Mentoring Providers

Te Ara Poutama

Te Aranui Youth Trust are the governing organisation that funds and runs Te Ara Poutama. This service provides mentoring to youths who have been identified as 'at-risk' in the Western Bay of Plenty area. It is a volunteer-based programme that provides our youth with one-on-one support from a positive role model in our community.

Overview

Young people often struggle to find their identity and the strength to make positive decisions. This is where Te Ara Poutama comes in, providing a mentoring partnership that can turn this around. A mentor can show a young person that someone cares about them and that they are not alone in dealing with the day-to-day challenges of their life.

Sharing fun activities and experiences promotes self-esteem, supports academic achievement, and introduces young people to new ideas and positive decision-making.

About the mentoring

The age range we mentor is 8 to 15 years old. This is a standalone mentoring programme and the expectation is that the mentoring relationship will last 1 year to 2 years. Mentors meet with the young person weekly.
