Te Puna Oranga

Te Puna Oranga has been mentoring youth for 15 years through various contracts. Our girls' wānanga focuses on mentoring mentors to support Māori wahine who have experienced sexual and family violence. We also provide individual mentoring for youth who have offended. Overview

Te Puna Oranga offers Hinetitama which is a program held during school holidays. It focuses on building self-esteem and self-awareness through Tikanga and Te Ao Māori, including waiata and Tu Oriori, a Mauri Ora programme that teaches young women how to assess their environments for potential harm. The program also includes He Korero Pounamu, which emphasizes safety, protection, youth development, and pathway planning for current and future goals.

About the mentoring

A six-month holistic mentoring approach engages participants aged 11 to 16 in positive activities, cultural connections, educational support, and one-on-one counselling with their whānau and other support networks. The expectation is that the mentoring relationship will last more than 2 years. Mentors meet with the young person weekly.
