Mentoring Providers

The Rising Foundation

The Rising Foundation is driven by the concept of "Unlocking Your Potential". More than a catch phrase, we endeavour to see this become a reality in the lives of every young person we work with. We have seen first-hand how our sustained programme of intervention and support achieves this goal. We partner with families, Intermediate and High Schools to unlock the potential of referred adolescents who display leadership qualities despite coping with challenging personal circumstances. We provide a five to seven year programme packed with insights, values and principles, emotional and moral support, role models and opportunities to practice what they have learned through challenging and creative activities that would otherwise be out of their reach. We ease their transition from Intermediate to High School and the transition from High School to Tertiary Education, Trades or the Workforce with practical support including drivers licences up to full licence and help with CVs, clothing, equipment and financial literacy workshops.

Overview

We are a voluntary programme and young people come to us for a variety of reasons. We accept referrals, including self-referrals, for young people in our partner school communities. We have full-time workers and dedicated rooms in four South Auckland High Schools - We support young people during their transition into High School - provide an 'in-school family' for them during their entire High School career, and support them through their second transition into tertiary education or the workforce. Our main focus is on emotional wellbeing, healthy human development and identity acquisition - introducing all the emotional, relational and situational insights and skills they need for an effective and resilient start to their adult life.

About the mentoring

The age range we work with is Year 8 to Year 12 (approximately ages 12 to 18). We support each young person for 5 to 7 years, depending on their needs. This is a school-based, long-term support programme. Full-time workers are based in schools and offer consistent, ongoing support throughout a young person’s entire high school journey.
