Mentoring Providers
TYLA (Turn Your Life Around)
TYLA works within local communities in New Zealand to deliver tailor-made programmes that help inspire at-risk youth to turn their lives around.
The TYLA Youth Development Trust was established in 1996 to identify a better means of reducing the number of young offenders in New Zealand and providing support and choices to the young people at risk of offending.
Our ambition is to identify at-risk youth, who are on a pathway to crime, and to intervene before their wayward journeys take them too far.

Overview
Children and young people who meet the criteria are referred to TYLA via a Police Youth Aid Officer, CYF, schools or local community groups.
Four fundamental components of the TYLA programme work in harmony to ensure the needs of the youth and family are fulfilled - Wairua, Health, Whanau and Education. The programme is designed to provide the tools and skills necessary for individuals to take responsibility for their actions and make good choices in life. Furthermore, we promote the families to take an active role in their children's lives and work with them to help them make good choices.

About the mentoring
Children can be identified from age 9, when they are in the final year of primary school, up until the end of intermediate school at age 13, to participate in TYLA. The programme is available for up to five years, intending to support the youth towards graduation at NCEA Level 1. The mentoring relationship is expected to last more than 2 years. Mentors meet with the young person weekly.
