University of Auckland Seelye Fellow, Professor Renée Spencer to present in Wellington and Auckland
We are delighted to announce that thanks to support from the Ministry of Youth Development and the Hon Nikki Kaye, Minister for Youth we are delighted to be able to bring Professor Renée Spencer to Wellington during her NZ visit.
This changes (almost) everything: Youth Initiated Mentoring
Professor Spencer will speak about Youth Initiated Mentoring (YIM), an innovative new approach in mentoring practice where young people are encouraged and supported to ask adults to be their mentors in formalised matches. This approach holds great potential to address a number of challenges faced by mentoring programmes such as volunteer recruitment and attrition and the low to modest effect sizes of mentoring particularly for high risk youth. Prof Spencer will present finds from two studies detailing the influence of YIM on the entire mentoring process, and implications for programme practices.
These presentations will appeal to mentoring programme providers, youth development agency staff, educators, policy leaders from government and community agencies.
They are free events however you will need to register to attend. The details are listed below.
