National Youth Mentoring Conference wrap-up
We were delighted to host the recent one day National Youth Mentoring Conference held in Auckland on Tuesday 14 June 2016. The programme featured 16 keynote speakers and panel members, offering attendees the opportunity to listen, to learn and to consider things for the future and to see the newly published Youth Mentoring Guide in public shortly after its launch.
Our speakers have kindly made their presentations available and these can now be accessed via the following link: Presentations are now available
We have also uploaded some photos from the day. Check these out here.
Congratulations to our four lucky winners. Each organisation will receive a complimentary place for our next 2 day MentorPlus (Mentoring skills) training course:
- Heart for Youth
- The Village Community Services Trust
- Te Aho o Te Kura Pounamu
- Crosspower NZ
To wrap-up, Ann Dunphy our Chair has shared her thoughts about the day:
Until this year, our previous conferences have included at least one international keynote and ran over two days. But trustees decided on a variation to this pattern, to make the most of the opportunity to focus on the depth of national expertise, captured in our new Guide, that was traversed with such skill by a superb range of speakers on June 14, then summed up so memorably in our first-ever conference song. In no way was this a rejection of wisdom originating beyond our shores. In fact the first featured quote in the Guide comes from one of the authors of the celebrated US “Handbook of Youth Mentoring”- referenced throughout our publication.
Youth Mentoring in Aotearoa NZ has now reached such levels of mana and eloquence that we felt the need to showcase our own leaders and deeply appreciate the most enthusiastic contribution of all who attended conference. That action-packed day is now a springboard for the series of in-depth workshops around the country, starting next month. In today’s world of increasing uncertainty and challenge, the need to maximise the quality and reach of mentoring support for young people is a huge imperative, so we are really proud to have taken such a big step forward with you in June.
