May is a busy training month with 2 more Sharing the Kaupapa workshops - Christchurch/Ōtautahi next week (15th May) and Whanganui (29th May). There are plenty of places still available for both workshops so register online now. We also have our 2 day MentorPlus (Mentoring Skills) public workshop in Auckland on the 21st and 22nd May. All the details are included below.
Sharing the Kaupapa 2: Quality Relationships in Youth Mentoring off to a great start
Tāmaki Makarau/ Auckland, Poneke/ Wellington, Otakou/Dunedin, Heretaunga/Hastings, Tūranga – nui-a-Kiwa/Gisborne.
5 workshops enjoyed, 13 more to go
It has been fun, it has been worthwhile, we have learnt new skills, we have made connections with others working as mentors and in youth development. We have learnt from Ross and Rod (our facilitators), we have learnt from the workshop material gathered from across the motu, we have learnt from each other. Experiences discussed, stories shared. Provoking some powerful thinking and reflection.
Over 160 people from 42 organisations (plus individuals) have participated in this workshop so far. It is a full-on day looking at making connections with young people, developing mentoring agreements, handling challenges and evaluating progress in the mentoring relationship. The workshop askes mentors to self- reflect on current practices and to seek new ideas through discussion. There is plenty of material to take home and refer to later.
Positive feedback suggests that the workshop is just what mentors need. NZYMN look forward to bringing the workshops to more locations in the North and South Islands.
